Charles Dickens: A Life

First of all a Happy New Year to you all and a welcome to my new follower Anne.

I just wanted to share with you my new book Charles Dickens: A Life - written by Claire Tomalin and published by Penguin which arrived from Amazon yesterday. It’s yummy, and as it’s been raining non- stop all day here in Essex, have managed to dip into it on and off most of the afternoon. Such an indulgence but well worth it. The book is in hardback and includes maps of where Dickens lived, worked and socialised in London as well as Gad’s Hill and Rochester. There is also a ‘Cast list’ of people he was connected with during his life as well as many photographs and illustrations. A book to be recommended.

  1. Hi Patricia, Charles Dickens is very topical at the moment and as I was reading the newspaper earlier on today, I noticed an article that his 3xgreat granddaughter has just given birth to his newest relative, a boy.

  2. Very appropriate considering we have had wall-to-wall Dickens over Christmas. Can't make my mind up about the Great Expectations adaptation - doesn't come anywhere near the b&w David Lean film which was so atmospheric.

  3. Oh this sounds very good. I might put it in my Amazon basket. I read Claire Tomalin's biography of Jane Austen and enjoyed it.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

  4. Looks an interesting book! I watched a couple of programmes about Dickens on TV over Christmas. There seems to be a lot things happening for his 200th birthday celebrations so I expect there will be more on TV through this year:)
