Chelsea? No but...

With Chelsea once again upon us I regret not having got around to booking it. Every year I plan to but somehow haven't quite made it.  Everything seems to be flowering so much later this year but hopefully a few more days of this lovely weather and we should be back on track.

I was thinking that my garden was looking a bit sorry for itself, until I took these random piccies and realised it wasn't as bad as I'd first thought.

We do tend to plant a lot of evergreens so that we can have year-round colour in the garden and one of my favourites is this Variegated Euonymous - we've got quite a few varieties and they blend so well with all the other plants.

Another favourite are Hebes - again several different types dotted
around the shrubbery and borders amongst the Japonicas and Cotoneasters.

This Viburnum has just come into bloom

John's mum used to say that Rhododendrons always flowered around the time of his
birthday which was yesterday -  and this has just made it by the skin of its teeth!

Love these lavenders and they attract so many bees and butterflies

The Broom has been flowering for a few weeks now and is still going strong

Pansies are a favourite of mine - and I love to see them bobbing around in the breeze

This flowering cherry budded about a month ago and has just lost the last of its blossom

Normally by now the tubs are brimming with colour but
my baskets are all I have at the moment

These Campanula look lovely for about a fortnight but for some reason we lose
them very quickly and not sure why - any ideas?

Not quite Chelsea but it's all mine (ours) and looking forward to a summer full of more blooms.

    1. Thanks Jan. We'd tidied ours up a few weeks ago and it's surprising what you can get done in one weekend. Good luck. Px

  3. Hi Patricia, your garden looks gorgeous to me! Isnt it amazing how everything suddenly seems to have taken off the last couple of weeks? Ours is a mass of my favourite blue/purple flowers at the mo, the delphiniums are about to flower and I think it will be their best showing yet!

    1. Thankyou Anne. I love it when flowers that haven't bloomed for a year start to pop up over night. Just want to get some tubs planted up now and that'll be the end of it (or not). P x

  4. Your garden looks wonderful, Patricia - we like to keep colour in the garden all year too and so have quite a few of the plants that you have in yours, in particular the variegated euonymous and one or two hebes. I love your french lavender:)

    1. Hi Rosie, thanks for your comment. I'm so glad we have plenty of evergreens, they keep my garden going throughout the winter months.

  5. Well Patricia, no worries there, they all look lovely.I think the blooms will start to go mad very soon and then we'll all be moaning that the summer colour has been and gone!!

    1. Thanks DC. You're right we must make the most of the colour in our gardens whilst we can. I looked at my Clematis today and it's shedding all it's flowers already, such a shame and making a fine mess too!

  6. Your garden looks splendid. We too have a lot of evergreens - we have lavender too, however, ours haven't started flowering yet which is a shame - particularly as yours look so wonderful and vibrant. Hopefully with this wonderful sunshine, that should all change shortly - fingers crossed!

    1. Hi Paula. Thanks for your lovely comment. I popped over to yours and loved what I read, especially your 'went to market' post. A girl after my own heart. I love anything vintage, retro and shabby chic. Thanks for becoming my latest follower and I shall return the compliment. Patricia x

  7. Lots of lovely colour in your garden. There was a broom bush in the walled garden and it smelled gorgeous. I didn't realise they were so scented! xx

  8. Love the euonymous it springs such a bright spot of colour into the garden like a ball of sunshine - we have it too and I love it. Shrubs do form the back bone of the garden don't they - my gardening is gradually waking up in the sunshine thank goodness - I was beginning to think it would never happen.

  9. Your garden looks fine, a lot better than some of the so called gardens I've seen at Chelsea in the past though it's years since I last went. THey had some lovely show gardens as well of course, it's the 'cutting edge' stuff that usually leaves me cold. My favourite of all the Chelsea gardens I've seen was Mr MacGregor's Garden which got a Gold Medal in 1999.
