Problems uploading photos

Is anyone else having problems with Blogger not allowing you to upload photos?  I've been tweaking my blog over the last week just for a change and removed my collage photo from the heading so that I could upload another. Well Blogger is saying "We're sorry but you've exceeded your photo upload quota. For more information, take a look here.......". So I went there and basically I would have to pay to have the privilege of uploading more photos!! What a cheek.

I can upload photos on my posts, hence this one - to take place of my heading! Also I can't upload photos to my sidebar any more either. I've only been blogging for about ten months now, and don't think I've uploaded any more than others. but its blooming frustrating and there doesn't seem to be anywhere you can go to enquire/complain.

Well that's my moan for today but I just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems?

  1. Not so far but then I have never used a photograph as a header or in my side bar. Could it be to do with pixel size? I always crop mine to 15x10 cm and only 72 px. That way, they load quickly unlike some blogs where you wait an age for them to appear.

  2. I'm that much up on technology but I remember that after a while I had to pay, I think it was something like £10 to store more photos on my blog. Since then I've had no problems with photos but plenty of other issues! Sometimes when I leave a blog it materialises into the same blog 7 or 8 times and I have to then close each one and 9 times out of 10 it locks the machine and I have to turn it off and then back on again! It's very frustrating! Hope you get your photo problem solved!

    1. Thankyou June. These things are so annoying and I'd hate not to blog because of it.

  3. I didn't realise there was a photo upload quota - how can that be - I mean some people have been blogging for years and uploading photos - do you store your photos on Picasa - I upgraded mine and there seems to be no limit now.

    1. Elaine I didn't know about a quota or anything. I do have Picasa on my computer for editing purposes but I store my photos in Windows 7 - My pictures. Perhaps I'll delete Picasa. Thanks anyway.

  4. Pat, I've found the answer for you. This first link - which you will have to copy and paste, explains about photograph quota's (which I didn't realise we had!). The second link takes you to Picasa to explain what counts as free storage and what doesn't.

  5. I wasn't aware there was a quota either and have just checked mine, I need to be more careful with the amount of pictures I post from now on. Can't you use the header you used to have?

    1. Hi Paula, I tried re-instating my original header but no joy I'm afraid. Watch this space!

  6. Try again Patricia.
Blogger can be confusing sometimes. I remember at the beginning , when i started blogging, I lost 3 or so blogs.. i was so confused.
I have'nt had problems so far in uploading photos.. but it could be as your follower datacreata said... crop your photos.
I believe blogger is a free service. Picassa i think you have to pay.
    save all your photos..
Hope you can work it out. I am no expert at all the techno.. but am happy so far.
friends advised me not to mess around too much.
    good luck.

    1. Thanks Val. This is the first problem I've encountered with Blogger and hope I can get it sorted. I'd hate not to be able to blog anymore - I love my new hobby of photography and am enjoying posting photos. I'm going to try and reduce the photo size to see what happens.

  7. If you have somewhere else that you store photos (like Flickr) you can use the URL to upload photos to your blog. You don't have to store them on Picasa.

    1. I have got a Flikr account but never used it, but it sounds like a good idea. I thought everyone stored their photos on their computer hard disk - mine is Windows 7 and I keep them in "My Pictures" although I do use Picasa to edit them on occasions. Thanks anyway for your tip, I'll bear it in mind.

  8. Hi Patricia,
I like June exceeded my limit after a few months possibly because my pixel size is probably quite high. I paid the £10 and have I appear to still have a large space still and I have had no problem with my banner (although I don't change it very often) and pictures down the side. Hope it starts working again soon!

    1. Hi Sarah. Where did you find how much quota you've used? Is it Blogger or Picasa. Getting confused now. Thanks anyway.

  9. It's so annoying isn't it. I had this a while ago. In the end I deleted my first two years worth of posts, after transferring it all to a memory stick, and then deleting the photos out of Picasa.

    1. Hi Lisa, what a pain to have to delete posts etc. How did you delete photos from Picasa? When I click on the short cut for Picasa it automatically brings ALL my photos over from my Windows 7 but I thought that was only temporarily whilst I edit photos, and then when I close Picasa they close with it.

  10. Sorry to hear you've had this problem. I was aware that there was a quota on Picasa and I'm now careful to crop my photos to get the right pixel size to save some space. I have only been posting on my present blog for a few months and know that eventually I will exceed the quota and have to think of another option. Another problem I've found with Picasa is that some of the photos I post do not enlarge when a viewer clicks on. Technical problems with blogging are frustrating so all the best with your blog (which I'm following).

    1. Thankyou Linda for your comment and idea about cropping to get the right pixel size. I'd really miss putting my photos on my blog, that's part of the fun of blogging. Thankyou for following me. I'm going to go over and visit you now.

  11. I'm afraid after a while you do have to pay - it's all to do with Picasa and storage space. I did try (in the early days) deleting some pictures from Picasa, but that just deleted pictures from posts...which is why is you go wayyyyy back on the blog some posts have missing pictures. I ended up paying in the end and (touch wood) I've had no problems since.

Bloggers not all 'that' free is it really.

Good luck - I hope you sort it out.

  12. What!!! That is terrible!

I too have used Flickr in the past to post photos (Since it frees up some space), but I am shocked you have to pay. What a bummer. Hopefully it is not too much?

  13. I am having the same problem uploading photos also. I just started blogging in November and have not posted many phtos at all. My daughter-in-law has a blog and posts lots of pics and she has never had a problem. She uses Photobucket. I have Picassa, but have been uploading from my Windows pictures. Have you worked it out without paying? BTW: How did you get your Liebster Blog tag to your sidebar? My sidebar won't take mine and I don't have much on my sidebar. I am a retired teacher and took many technology courses including blogging.....never had these problems!
